Technical Update

2013-03-18   Client CMS upgrades

In the spring of 2013, we will contact CMS clients using Expression Engine version 1 to discuss and plan an upgrade to version 2. In December 2012, version 1 became a legacy product no longer under active development and with only major security defects fixed. Version 1 will be retired on December 7th, 2013 and from then will not receive updates of any kind. The upgrade to version 2 will keep your CMS secure and continuing to serve your organization going forward. For more information please see the Ellis Lab post.

2013-03-18   PHP upgrade

As we update PHP across our web servers to PHP 5.3 we will contact affected clients directly. If you have a “static” website with no .php files then you are NOT affected by this change. However if you use any of the following common PHP applications, please contact your developer to confirm your software is compatible with PHP 5.3: Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine, X-Cart, OpenCart, Magento, PHPbb, Coppermine, or any PHP forms (e.g contact us form). If your website has issues after the update, please let us know as we have the ability to run the older version of PHP for specific sites as a temporary option to give you some more time to update your site. Please note that all websites developed and maintained by The Wire are compatible with this version of PHP.

2013-02-14   Phaseout of IIS shared website hosting

The Wire will phase out IIS shared web hosting support July 31st 2013. All clients using IIS have been contacted to arrange options for migrating. Our Linux hosting offers a rich website control panel but Front Page Extensions and ASP will no longer be supported.

We thank our clients and partners for 19 years of independent Canadian internet services and solutions
