Creating Windows ME Dialup Networking Icon

Open 'Control Panel' folder in 'My Computer' and if needed set to show all contents.

1. Open the 'Dial-Up Networking' folder in 'Control Panel'.
2. Select 'Make New Connection' from the 'Connections' menu.
3. In 'Type a name for the computer you are dialing' enter The Wire.
4. Confirm that 'Select a device' shows a modem that your computer has recognised. Select 'Next'.
5. Enter the phone number and area code for The Wire - 4162146452 - in the Telephone number field only. You can ignore the area code box. Select 'Next'.
6. Select 'Finish'.

Configuring Windows ME Dialup Networking Properties

1. Select the new icon called 'The Wire' and select 'Properties'.
2. Select the 'Networking' tab and uncheck options under 'Advanced options'.
3. Under 'Allowed Network Protocals', only check off TCP/IP. Click OK.
4. Select The Wire icon and 'Create shortcut' to desktop.
5. Double click The Wire icon and enter the username and password and click Connect.
