Creating the Dial-Up Networking Icon
- Double-click on the My Computer icon.
- Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.
- Double click on Make New Connection.
- When Windows 95/98 asks you to "Type the name of the
computer you are dialing" enter "the-Wire". You can use
capitals and spaces in the name. Where it says "Select
a device" you can accept the default modem that appears.
- Click on the NEXT button.
- Leave the Area Code box empty.
- Put the entire phone number into the Telephone Number
box.
If you have Bell Call Waiting use the number: *70, 4162146452
to disable call waiting for the duration of your Internet
session.
If you do not have Bell Call Waiting use the number: 4162146452

- Change the country code to CANADA (1).
- Click on the NEXT button.
Click on the FINISH button.
You have now created a new Icon called "the-Wire" which
needs a little more configuration.
Configuring the Dial-Up Networking Icon
- With your RIGHT mouse button, click on the new icon called
the-Wire in your Dialup Networking folder and choose Properties
from the menu.

- Click on the Server Types tab. First, verify that the
TYPE OF DIAL-UP SERVER is set to "PPP: Internet, Windows
NT Server, Windows 98" or a variant that begins with PPP:.
Then, in ADVANCED OPTIONS, uncheck all of the check boxes.
In ALLOWED NETWORK PROTOCOLS, make sure that only TCP/IP
is checked. Click "OK" to exit this window.

- You are now able to access the Internet! Double-click
on "the-Wire" icon. Type in the User name and Password we
gave you. Click in the "Save Password" box for ease of access.
Click "CONNECT" and the modem will dial the-Wire.
